Roero Bric Valdiana 2016, Giovanni Almondo

The 2016 Roero Bric Valdiana is another compelling wine in this range from Almondo. Dark cherry, menthol, licorice, spice, cedar and blood orange are all laced together in a deep, flavorful Roero endowed with real character and tons of class. The 2016 needs time in bottle to shed some tannin, but it is super-impressive today. Sweet red cherry, mint, blood orange and star anise add the closing shades of nuance. There is a ton to look forward to. - Antonio Galloni

    93 p. Vinous (2015)

The 2015 Roero Bric Valdiana is sweeter and deeper than the straight Roero, with greater textural depth and overall structure. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, dried flowers and anise add lovely shades of nuance. The 2015 opens up beautifully with time in the glass as the layers flesh out. Effortlessly textured and inviting, the 2015 has so much to offer. - Antonio Galloni

Tasted blind. Concentrated ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Quite rich on the nose. The palate shows rich fruit framed by a load of grainy tannins. Long and satisfying. - Walter Speller

    93 p. Vinous (2013)

The 2013 Roero Bric Valdiana shows what is possible with Nebbiolo in Roero. Aromatic and beautifully nuanced, with plenty of depth to match, the 2013 offers terrific balance and tons of near to medium term appeal. The Bric Valdiana is a prototypical Roero Nebbiolo built on grace and elegance, not to mention a reference point wine for the region. - Antonio Galloni
